Inflation to rise by 2% due to Tet

The consumer price index is expected to increase in February by roughly 1.8-2% compared with last year, says the Ministry of Trade’s Domestic Market Management Board.
Officials expect consumer demand ahead of the Lunar New Year, Tet, in mid-February to drive prices higher.

In January, the index on a monthly comparison was up 1.1%, due primarily to Government price adjustments on coal, electricity, cement and certain food goods, according to the General Statistics Office.
Tet was a factor in January too, but is expected to be more so in the weeks leading up to the festival.
