Vietnamese believe in bright future

Viet Nam is home to the most optimistic residents in the world, with more than nine out of every 10 citizens interviewed in the four main cities (94%) saying 2007 will be better than 2006, according to the Gallup International Association’s Voice of the People Survey.
The result is remarkably consistent – Viet Nam has been at the head of the optimist chart for the last four years.

According to the managing director of the AC Nielsen Viet Nam, Chris Morley, increasing amounts of foreign direct investment in recent years has fuelled the sweeping hopeful outlooks.

Vietnamese economic expert Le Dang Doanh thinks Vietnamese people are optimistic because of the country’s political and social stability, and the gradual economic improvement. However, he noted that annual income is lower than that in many countries that are less optimistic.

The survey points out that optimism is particularly high in countries which are upbeat about economic prospects and do not have major concerns about unemployment or industrial disputes increasing in 2007.
