US businesses called to invest in VN

This has been the best period for US and other foreign businesses to promote their activities in Viet Nam, said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem.

In a meeting with the US business community in Viet Nam held by the American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham) on Mar. 7, the deputy PM stressed that the country has been creating more favourable conditions for foreign investors, including US enterprises.
The deputy PM said he appreciated the contributions by the US business community in Viet Nam to normalise and develop the Viet Nam-US relationship.

At the meeting, deputy PM Khiem briefed more than 80 representatives from various US enterprises such as Citibank, Ford, Motorola and Microsoft about Viet Nam's policies regarding development and Viet Nam-US ties.
"In recent years, Viet Nam-US ties have progressed and economic and trade co-operation between the two countries has further developed, especially after Viet Nam's accession to the WTO as well as the US's offering of Permanent Normalised Trade Relations (PNTR)," he emphasised.
In the meeting, Khiem answered questions about Viet Nam's investment and business environment, development of a stock market, textile and garment export and participation of businesses in large-scale projects.

Last year, Viet Nam-US two-way trade reached 9.7 billion US$, of which US imports amounted to 8.8 billion US$.
The US ranked fourth among foreign investors in Viet Nam with 47 projects totalling 640 million US$ last year.
