VN-Index, HaSTC report slight increases

Both the Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi bourses reported slight increases by the end of the July 17 trading session.

The VN-Index at the country’s largest bourse - Ho Chi Minh City Securities Trading Centre – tacked on 4.5 points or 0.45 percent from the previous session to break the psychological 1,000-point benchmark, finishing up on 1,000.33 points.

More than 4.18 million shares, mostly low-priced shares, worth a combined 446.4 billion VND changed hands, as 62 stocks rallied for gains, against 25 stocks that fell over the course of the session.

Drug company Domesco (DMC), Sai Gon Fuel (SFC), Song Da Urban and Industrial Zone Investment and Development (SJS) and Tuong An Oil (TAC) were among the top five earners, with all adding between 5,000-6,000 VND to their listed prices.

Meanwhile, blue chip share Tay Ninh Cable Tour (TCT) continued to be the biggest loser of the day, tumbling by 11,000 VND per share, followed by Binh Dinh Mining (BMC), down by 8,000 VND per unit.

Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Bank (STB), Corporation for Financing and Promoting Technology (FPT), Ha Tien Transport (HTV), HCM City Technical Infrastructure Investment (CII) and Viet Nam Dairy Products (VNM) recorded the highest trading volumes.

At the Ha Noi Securities Trading Centre, the HaSTC rose by 1.66 points to close at 272.25 points, with 701,100 stocks worth 72.4 billion VND traded on the day.

Thirty-three shares rallied for gains, 34 stocks fell, six remained unchanged and 14 shares saw no transactions during the course of session.

Investors said that Merrill Lynch group’s intention to withdraw capital from Viet Nam has affected the country’s stock market and resulted in the decline of the VN-Index to below 1,000 points on July 16.
