VN-Index slides, HaSTC-Index continues on the rise

The Ho Chi Minh City bourse reported a modest decline while its Ha Noi-based counterpart continued rising by the end of the July 9 morning trading session.

The VN-Index, which measures the value shares listed at the Ho Chi Minh City Securities Trading Centre, dipped 0.26 points to finish at 1,010.27 points. More than 4.1 million shares, worth close to 465.9 trillion VND, changed hands.

The whole trading session witnessed 47 stocks rally for gains, including big players like Confectioner Kinh Do Corp (KDC), Imexpharm Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (IMP) and Hau Giang Pharmaceutical Company (DHG).

Meanwhile, Song Da Urban and Industrial Zone Investment and Development (SJS), Binh Dinh Mining (BMC) and Saigon Hotel (SGH) were the biggest losers at the session.

The HaSTC-Index at the Ha Noi Securities Trading Centre up 2.61 points to finish at 270.74 points with more than 1 million shares, worth nearly 108.9 billion VND changing hands.

Saigon Securities (SSI) topped the market in terms of transaction volume with 345,400 shares being traded, followed by Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) and Bim Son Cement Joint Stock Company (BCC).

Experts attributed the low transaction volume to caution of investors arising from possible impact of the regulations on capital sources restriction for stock investment and recent initial public offerings (IPO) by the country's leading insurer Bao Viet and PetroVietnam Insurance (PVI), which fell short of expectations.

According to experts, 25 percent of total shares listed on the HCM City bourse suffered a decline of between 10-20 percent in the first half of this year.
