The Index Evaluation Council has made public the list of the companies which had the biggest total market value in the first six months of the year. The Corporation for Financing and Promoting Technologies (FPT) tops the list.
According to the Index Evaluation Council, the companies in the finance sector held 28% of the total listing market capitalisation value, followed by the companies in the consumer service sector, which held 13.51%. Consumer products and industries ranked third and fourth, while electricity and water ranked fifth. The oil and gas sector had the lowest market value, 4%.
FPT was the company with the biggest total market value, at VND29tril (nearly $1.8bil). After considering the latest financial reports, which showed that 60% of total turnover of the company came from mobile phone distribution, and referring to the standards on business classification now applied at New York Stock Exchange and HCM City Stock Exchange, the Index Evaluation Council decided to list FPT as a consumer service company instead of part of the technology sector.
Of the top 10 companies with biggest market value, Vinamilk ranked second with $1.2bil, and Sacombank ranked third with nearly $1.1bil. SJS ranked fifth on the list, and with the dominant turnover from real estate trading, the Index Evaluation Council decided to put SJS into the finance sector.
The 10 companies with biggest market value included four from the finance sector, which shows the advantages of the finance sector over other fields in terms of the working capitalisation value on the listing market.
In related news, the HCM City Stock Exchange is considering building up a new VN Index to international standards, which will be used for reference when Vietnam provides information to the world market, according to Tran Dac Sinh, Director General of HOSE.
Mr Sinh said that the new VN Index would only be used in international transactions, and be based on the data of several tens of the biggest listing companies.
HOSE began operating yesterday, August 8, the forerunner of which was the HCM City Securities Trading Centre.
