134 firms apply for public company status

By May 18, 134 businesses have been awaiting approval to become public companies, said the State Securities Commission.

Many of these firms include financial powerhouses such as the Hoa Phat group, the Viet Nam Import-Export and Construction Corporation and the Asia Joint Stock Commercial Bank.
The Securities Law demands that companies that have a chartered capital of at least 10 billion VND and have listed their shares on the stock market or have at least 100 shareholders register as public companies.

The number of applications is thought to be relatively small in comparison with the almost 200 businesses subject to the law that are listing their shares on the floors of the Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi Securities Trading Centres.
