Securities broker VIS opens branch in Ho Chi Minh City

The Hanoi-based Vietnam International Securities Joint Stock Company, or VIS, has opened a branch in HCMC.

Established last November, the firm has total assets of VND800 billion.

Vietnam has over 50 registered securities firms but four of them – Saigon Securities Inc, Bao Viet Securities Company, Asia Commercial Bank Securities Company, and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam Securities Company – account for 71% of all trade.

The State Securities Commission received more than 30 applications for setting up securities firms in the first quarter.

It is considering a temporary halt to new licenses due to the poor quality of services at existing brokerages.
