The price of catfish (pangasius) rose by a record VND500-800 (US$0.03-0.04, around 4%) to around 0.95 UScent per kilogram in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, due to a sudden surge in demand in Europe.
Vietnam’s current catfish output is less than 500,000 tons a year and it plans to expand it to nearly two million tons by 2020.
